10 weeks

Darya is almost 10 weeks old. My maternity leave finishes in two days but I'm going to add a few weeks holiday to it. I don't know what to do when my holiday finishes.

Darya really wants to talk. When I read poetry books to her she talks back. It is a very beautiful experience. She understands when my sentence is finished, then she says: aaa, oohoo ga ga ghoo, and I wait for her to finish, Then I go further. So beautiful! ... She actually speaks more when Frans is around. She loves her father.

Tomorrow she will get her first immunization shots. I just bought pecifiers for tomorrow. :-)

People are dying in my country.
I'm troubled. I'm very sad.
Why did we make a baby in this dark time? What did we think? How could we bring such a beautiful and innocent being to this world?

Development, 6 weeks

My little Darya is about 40 days old. Some people expect babies adopt a rhytm at this stage. Darya doesn't have one yet. In the past days she had some good naps during the day and generally drank less often but also she had days during which she drank every hour and cried a lot. Nights also vary. There are good and bad ones. What is certainly an improvement comparing to her first month is that recently I don't need to hold her the whole day. I can leave her alone when she is awake, has had milk and clean diaper, and is in a good mood. She has learnt to amuse herself.

TOYS:
She is fascinated by musical mobiles. She has three: a musical cow in her playpen, a musical snail above our bed where I breastfeed her at night, and one above her changing table. She always coos to that when we are changing her diaper. It is so sweet!
Generally any moving object is a wonderful toy. I have made a mobile from EPS balls which is light enough to move with the smallest breeze. I can easily leave her alone with that. I just need to open the window. Other favourite toys are contrast-masters: black wires against our white walls. :-) She fixes her eyes on them with great pleasure. :-) So easy to satisfy a baby!

MUSIC:
Darya also likes to dance or better said to be danced. :-) When she is too active in the afternoons we dance with her with loud Samba music. At times when she is calmer she likes classical music. The absolute baby-Cliché, Motzart, works great on her. She reacts to Bach's chamber music too and sleeps well with romantic ones from Brahms, Chopin, Schubert, and so on. Vivaldi is also a favourite. I sometimes sing Iranian or Frans sings Brazilian songs to her which she enjoys. She sleeps with Bossa nova too.

Communication games:
Her most loved activity is to play face to face with us. She looks at our facial expression and tries to mimic us. She can move up her eyebrows, show her tongue and open her mouth as a response to us doing so. I sometimes think sticking Out her tongue means more because she does it when we don't do it to her. It might be a sign from her I'll have to discover.
She also loves to us talking to her although everything we say is translated into big smile and baby words: Anga, goo, oo, aa, agoo, ach, eh.

Meteoric:
She grabs interesting objects, hugs us when we hold her, holds her head up, tries to crawl, and climbs us when she is excited and we hold her but the cutest is when she tries to reach us.

The birth

Though after a month the result is perfect, many things went wrong at Darya's birth. Both baby and I were in a terrible situation. I blame the Dutch medical team as usual.

I didn't update this blog because it was difficult to write about the birth. But I can put some pictures:

our first decent picture of her (not bloody)

Our sweet baby is born on May 2nd. She is two weeks old now. The birth was very difficult. Mother and baby both suffered. Darya has swallowed meconum and had bacterial infection. She has been kept in the incubator for almost a week. We all had a tough time ... I don't explain, it is passed.

She is fully recovered now. We are home together. She drinks a lot and is growing. She is very alert and ractive. She has a very attentive look. She is a bunch of love.

I'm not fully recovered yet. I will write later when I feel better.
